Atlanta Marriott Marquis Named Marriott’s Hotel of the Year

John Portman & Associates’ designed Atlanta Marriott Marquis was named the 2017 Americas Hotel of the Year by Marriott International, just four weeks after the property earned the honor of being named internal Hotel of the Year Eastern Region. Eligible hotels are selected for the award through a process that showcases how they deliver on Marriott’s brand promise. Each winning hotel must also demonstrate that they can execute in areas like leadership, customer satisfaction, financials and associate engagement.

Completed in 1985, the convention hotel is comprised of 1,663 rooms and has a dramatic 50 -story atrium. The hotel is organized to contain public activities within the podium, while reserving the sculptural tower for guest rooms and suites. The Atlanta Marriott Marquis took interior space to new heights occupying most of the city block, it’s parabolic concrete forms rises from the large rectangular podium base, creating a dynamic experience with ever-changing views. It’s dramatic and breathtaking 470 feet atrium —once the highest atriums in the world—that leaves guests awestruck. The podium incorporates an exhibition hall, executive conference center, and two ballrooms. Trees, plants, and fountains create a park-like environment where a variety of restaurants and cafes are located. Pedestrian bridges connect the atrium lobby with the office towers and other components of the Peachtree Center complex. The hotel places travelers near a MARTA rail station, Georgia World Congress Center and AmericasMart Atlanta.
