Coda at Tech Square Tops out
ATLANTA (September 7, 2018) — A ceremony Thursday celebrated the topping out of the Coda project in Tech Square. The highly-anticipated mixed-use development consists of research facilities, a high-speed data center, food venues, outdoor gathering spaces and, the heart of the complex, the Collaborative Core. The complex incorporates a repurposing of the historic Crum & Forster building, preserving the rich fabric of Atlanta’s Midtown area, engaging the public, and activating the street.
“We are excited to see this important project reach a new milestone,” said Pierluca Maffey, Principal and VP of Design for John Portman & Associates of the topping out of the tower. “It is gratifying to help the vision for Coda take shape as a people-focused environment that integrates the existing assets of Tech Square with new opportunities in interdisciplinary research, commercialization and sustainability.”
Coda will provide innovative companies the rare opportunity to co-locate with one another alongside world-class researchers and faculty from Georgia Tech, fostering unprecedented collaboration opportunities. Designed with an understanding that the exchange of ideas is a key factor for innovation and success, this project is already a testament to collaboration. In addition to architects John Portman & Associates, the project team for Coda includes developer Portman Holdings, anchor tenant The Georgia Institute of Technology, and general contractor DPR Construction, among others.
Scheduled to open in 2019, Coda is not the first project that the firm has designed for the Georgia Tech campus. “As my father and I are both graduates of the School of Architecture at Georgia Tech, it is a distinct joy to be working with Tech again and having this opportunity to contribute to the campus environment,” said Jack Portman, Chairman and CEO of John Portman & Associates.
Additionally, Coda is one of several state-of-the-art buildings currently under construction in the Tech Square area, all designed by John Portman & Associates specifically for a technologically-advanced clientele, with the vision of further solidifying Tech Square and Midtown Atlanta as a center for world-changing innovation.
