John Portman & Associates announces Denver mixed-use project

Hotel and office development at 1801 Wewatta Street will sit across from Union Station

John Portman & Associates is pleased to announce the firm’s appointment to provide architectural design services for a new $100 million mixed-use building to be built across the street from Denver’s Union Station.

The site in Lower Downtown Denver (LoDo) is to be developed by Portman Holdings in partnership with Hensel Phelps. Plans call for a 200,000-square-foot development including office space and a hotel of approximately 185 rooms. Design is in progress, with plans to break ground this fall.

The project will be the firm’s first in Denver. Located at 1801 Wewatta Street, the building is part of an active development area spurred by the city’s revitalization of Union Station, which includes nearly $500 million in mass-transit investments.
