John Portman & Associates Awarded Greenland Dian Lake International Health Town Phase 1 – 2 Project in Kunming, China
John Portman & Associates (JPA) is pleased to announce an important new project that will contribute to the vision of Kunming to become the center for health and wellness in China. After winning an international design competition in October, the firm recently finalized a contract with Greenland to begin work on Dian Lake International Health Town Phase 1-2. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site on December 16, 2017.
JPA’s architectural design solution for this approximately 3 million square foot complex is one that integrates function, purpose and sensory experience in a holistic manner to create balance and harmony. It establishes an enhanced brand for Greenland by creating an enriched living environment that advances the master plan through urban design. The resulting community of life will incorporate healthy living, retail, hotel, an international health care clinic and continuing care retirement center (CCRC) within a vibrant 24/7 environment.
Firm president, Grace A. Tan, AIA, describes the design effort: “Our proposed solution demonstrates how the project meets the program and fits into the overall urban fabric of the Greenland Dian Lake International Health Town and Kunming City Dian Lake Tourism District and, at the same time, is distinct, with simplicity of form and elegance of design. We are grateful to Greenland for the opportunity to work on such a significant and important project.”
John Portman & Associates designs people-focused environments that incorporate key factors such as art, light, water and nature to promote a successful, balanced and inherently human work/life experience. This is the firm’s 2nd major continuing care and retirement community complex and the second project with Greenland Group.
