John Portman & Associates to help invigorate senior living lifestyle in China

PORTMAN TO PROVIDE DESIGN CONSULTATION SERVICES FOR CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY IN SHANGHAI

John Portman & Associates (PORTMAN) is pleased to announce the firm’s appointment by Guangnian (Shanghai) Investment Co., Ltd., as design consultation service provider for Songjiang, Shanghai CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community) Project, a high end retirement community being developed by the subsidiary of Taikang Life Insurance Company. The project focuses on providing life style retirement care, health care, education and comprehensive services in a unique landscaped environment with a strong connection to nature.

The community will offer several different housing options so individuals may select the lifestyle that best suits their current personal needs, including accommodations ranging from active adult residents and independent living residents to full medical assistance residents. Should their needs change, residents can be assured that the appropriate level of lifestyle support will be available to them.

Most of the project’s open commercial facilities are intended to serve the retirement community and the surrounding Songjiang area, emphasizing community vitality, participation and interaction. While the residential areas are gated, much of the public space is open. Abundant landscaping acknowledges the generous site, elegantly proclaiming the community’s identity as a place for all to enjoy. Walking paths, social spaces and recreation areas are found throughout. Accessibility to residential neighborhoods enables residents’ extended family members to live nearby.

Phase I of the project is expected to consist of seven high-rise buildings and several low-rise structures. The high-rise buildings are expected to include a hospital and healthcare facility and six independent living buildings with 973 units, 60 Wards, 120 professional care units, 30 memory disorder units, 120 assisted care units and 643 independent living units. The low-rise buildings will be public facilities and are expected to feature various shopping, dining and entertainment amenities including a health club with a swimming pool.
