The Park Hyatt Hyderabad Opens!

John Portman & Associates (PORTMAN) is pleased to announce the opening of India’s first urban Park Hyatt, the Park Hyatt Hyderabad in Hyderabad, India. The project, designed by PORTMAN, features approximately 599,550 square feet (55,700 square meters) of built area in a prime setting. The five-star Park Hyatt includes 185 guestrooms and 24 suites, in addition to 42 fully serviced luxury apartments.

The project’s location is one of the best addresses in Hyderabad with frontage on the Banjara Road and an excellent connection to the airport and the city’s business centers. The project includes international class amenities and features, including meeting, conference and banquet facilities, restaurants and lounges, and a spa and fitness center.

The sleek and modern eight-story structure is clad in natural Madurai granite from South India and features expansive glass windows. In addition to the indigenous granite, the façade elements acknowledge India’s intense sun with the use of metal sunscreens, low E insulated glass and architectural accents. Inside, plant life and water features abound, as natural light floods the atrium soaring through all eight floors. The idea was to create an indoor oasis for people to enjoy in the midst of Hyderabad’s rather arid climate.

The lobby features an original John Portman sculpture that was commissioned by the owners. Titled “Becoming,” the sculpture is a twenty-seven foot high (8.23 meter) undulating form in a matte white finish prominently positioned at the end of a 131 foot long (40 meter) linear reflecting pool that runs the length of the lobby. Serving as a contemplative counterpoint to the dramatic atrium space, it is mounted on a thin reflective stainless steel platform that creates the impression that the sculpture floats just above the surface of the water.

Interiors, by Hirsch Bedner Associates, feature Indian motifs inspired by henna patterns, contrasted with silk and vibrant colors recalling India’s traditional saris. The guestrooms, measuring at least 463 square feet (45 square meters) are among the largest in Hyderabad and characterized by soothing earth tones complemented by natural light from the expansive windows.

On the two upper floors, the serviced apartments, the first in Hyderabad to be incorporated into a hotel setting, offer from one to three bedrooms, hardwood floors, marble countertops and more, all sharing the gracious service and amenities of the Park Hyatt hotel. Apartment dwellers enjoy either city views or atrium views with indoor gardens.

PORTMAN designed the hotel for owners, Gayatri Hi-Tech Hotels of Hyderabad, India, part of the Gayatri Group of companies, a large and highly successful industrial conglomerate. The Group owns and operates companies dealing in the business of infrastructure construction, commercial complexes, and sugar mills and has now ventured into the hotel business.
