Three hotels designed by John Portman & Associates make travel + leisure 2013 worlds best business hotels list

John Portman & Associates (Portman) is pleased to announce that three of the firm’s designs were named to Travel + Leisure magazine’s “2013 World’s Best Business Hotels” as voted by readers in the publication’s annual survey. The Park Hyatt at Beijing Yintai Center was selected as the No. 1 business hotel in Beijing. The JW Marriott at Tomorrow Square in Shanghai and the Pan Pacific at Marina Square in Singapore also made the list for their respective cities.

“We bring an extremely broad perspective to hotel design because of the many ‘hats’ which we wear: we develop hotels, finance hotels, buy and reposition hotels, program and architecturally design hotels and even participate in the interior design of hotels. We do it all, except perhaps ‘wash dishes’! This enables Portman to understand the customer and operator needs while simultaneously addressing the financial requirements of the banks, owners and investors,” explained Jack Portman, Principal and Vice Chairman of John Portman & Associates. “For a successful hotel, ‘EVERYBODY’ must be ‘happy’.”

In Portman-designed hotels, the architect designs with guests in mind. The projects are functional and inviting. They enhance the environment for those who use them, while being sound investments for those who own and operate them. In the course of designing over 50,000 hotel rooms, the firm has made the design process a smooth one. Designers carefully consider individual operating criteria and marketing objectives, local traditions and culture. Believing in a team’s collective strength, Portman team members work closely with clients and the hotel’s technical staff, as well as with interior designers and other consultants, involving everyone in all design aspects to achieve success. In designing for the world’s leading hotel brands, such as Waldorf-Astoria, Ritz-Carlton, Taj Hotels & Palaces, Westin, Hyatt.
